Part of the Tendai Sect, this temple is located on Mt. Gyo.
Yakushi Nyorai, Shaka Nyorai (Shakyamuni) and Amida Nyorai are enshrined in the main hall.
In order to develop Tendai Shomyo, the Priest Ennon had this constructed from 851-854. It was not until 1109 that the name of the temple was changed to Raigo-in (Raigo Temple).
The principal image is of Yakushi Nyorai, Amida Nyorai and of Shaka Nyorai (Shakyamuni), which were made during the Heian period and are now considered important cultural property. This temple is known as the place of origin of Shomyo (chanting of Buddhist hymns).
