Tendai sect branch temple of Enryaku-ji (Enryaku Temple).
In 835, the priest En-nin brought over Buddhist teachings and hymms from China, and Shorin-in (Shorin Temple) was built in order to teach the fundamentals of Tendai beliefs.
The temple was once in decline, but Minamoto no Tokinobu began the restoration process in 1013.
